Story
Netflix has finally released the new Lucifer Season 5 trailer for the upcoming eight new episodes of their hit supernatural series, which will be available for streaming on Friday, May 28. The video highlights the arrival of Lucifer, Amenadiel and Michael’s all-knowing father, God, as he tries to mend his relationship with his devil son while also announcing his impending retirement. Because of this, it will trigger a celestial war between twins Lucifer and Michael as they fight each other for God’s throne.
More than a year after Season 4 arrived on Netflix, Season 5 of Lucifer was released on Aug. 23. Millions of fans were excited to watch the new installment, keeping the show on Netflix’s top 10 list for weeks. The devilish crime show we all know and love was originally canceled by Fox after three seasons due to low viewings in 2018. Thankfully, Netflix picked it up and has since released 18 hour-long episodes that do not disappoint, especially the last eight episodes for Season 5.
Season 4 left off with demons from hell coming to Earth, capturing a baby and murdering countless people before taking over their bodies. This left Lucifer (Tom Ellis) no choice but to go back to the world below. To everyone’s chagrin, he said goodbye to his long-running love-interest, Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) and left his life in Los Angeles behind.
Despite the host of characters, each scene barely lasts for a few seconds before the screenplay rushes to the next one. Indrajith as Govardhan, a nerdy whistleblower, appeared to be an interesting character at the outset, but the narrative fails to make good use of him. The script doesn't take the time to establish anything and Prithviraj depends heavily on stylized shots and loud, intruding background music (Deepak Dev) to make up for the lack of storytelling skills. Or he falls back on cliches - if you have to establish the luxurious surroundings of the chief villain, include a shot of a random woman in a bikini. Most disappointingly, he also includes an elaborate "item" number in his first directorial, contrary to his promise made a couple of years ago that he would avoid misogynistic representations of women in his films.
